About the show

What does it mean to love a place that does not always love you back? Based on true events, Black Russian follows a Black American missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints navigating post-Soviet Russia at a moment of profound political and cultural change. At times comic, moving and unsettling, this world-premiere solo show traces a journey from certainty into complexity. Written and performed by Dr Michael Morris, this compelling piece blends storytelling, multiple characters and live-singing to explore race, belonging, and the sustaining power of faith in the most difficult circumstances.
